Feeling better, No. 18 Texas Tech set for TCU
Mon Jan 20, 2020 4:27 PM

No. 18 Texas Tech is healthy, improving every game and in the process serving notice it's more than capable of defending its Big 12 Conference regular-season championship.

The next hurdle for the Red Raiders comes Tuesday, when they square off against host TCU in Fort Worth in the latest key conference game.

The Red Raiders hit the road after a 72-52 home win over Iowa State on Saturday. TCU heads home on the heels of an 83-63 defeat at Oklahoma on Saturday.

Texas Tech's Kyler Edwards poured in 22 points, including a five of six 3-pointers, and Davide Moretti added 17 points. The Red Raiders (12-5, 3-2 Big 12) won their second consecutive game.

"We broke it down into two four-minute games (and) we tried to win every four-minute game we could," Edwards said. "We played as hard as we could."

Terrence Shannon Jr. returned after missing the previous two games with a back injury and scored 11 points, hitting all four of his shot for the Red Raiders.

"I am really glad to have (Shannon) back and to have a full roster," Texas Tech coach Chris Beard said. "To have (him) back is a blessing. He is one of our best players. It is a team effort -- we all have to help him get back to the best shape he can be in and quickly."

Texas Tech improved to 9-1 at home this season. The Red Raiders have held eight opponents under 60 points this season and have 11 double-digit victories.

The Horned Frogs are coming off two blowout road losses after winning their first three Big 12 games. The defeat at Oklahoma on Saturday followed an 81-49 setback at West Virginia on Jan. 14, when TCU suffered its worst loss in coach Jamie Dixon's tenure.

TCU (12-5, 3-2) struggled offensively and defensively against OU. The Horned Frogs missed their first 10 tries from 3-point range and finished eight of 36 (22.2 percent) from beyond the arc.

"Shot too many of them, but it's kind of something we do," Dixon said of the 3-pointers. "When we shoot a percentage that we did, especially in the first half, it really puts you in a hole."

TCU has never won a game in Norman, where it is 0-13. Oklahoma has won the last five meetings.

The Horned Frogs, who had a season-low eight turnovers, were led by Desmond Bane's 12 points, while Jaedon LeDee had 11. Edric Dennis Jr. and Kevin Samuel had 10 points each.

"We were bad in every way," Dixon said. "We got what we deserved. We earned it. No question about it. We've got to get some things fixed and adjusted. We're going to go work on it.

"We didn't handle adversity well today. You talk about what we need to do and we didn't. I don't know if we got as much done in practice getting ready for this one. We've got to focus on the task at hand, and we can't be distracted."
