BYU scores 35 straight, tops UMass 35-16
Sat Nov 10, 2018 3:30 PM

FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) Zach Wilson threw two touchdown passes to Talon Shumway and Aleva Hifo ran for two and Brigham Young pulled away in the second half for a 35-14 win over Massachusetts on Saturday at the home of the New England Patriots.

The Cougars (5-5) fell into an early 10-0 hole but Wilson connected with Shumway for a 4-yard score late in the first period and a 15-yarder late in the second for a 14-10 lead.

BYU controlled the second half with Matt Hadley and Hifo notching scoring runs in the third quarter and Hifo getting his second early in the fourth.

The Minutemen (4-7), who won last year at BYU 16-10, led 10-0 after a 2-yard touchdown run for Marquis Young and added a late 5-yard run by Ross Comis.

Wilson was 13 of 21 for 160 yards and the Cougars added 180 yards on the ground. The defense held UMass to 199 yards with Isaiah Kaufusi making 14 tackles.

Middle linebacker Bryton Barr had 13 tackles for UMass, giving him 135 for the season and double figures in nine games. He is in his seventh season of college football, second at UMass, after an injury-plagued five seasons at Towson.
