League Message

  • Topic 1

As mentioned previously, the cap will stay at $125,000,000. Based on current salaries, post draft, this looks to be a great number. One team is over, a number of teams are close, and a few have a decent amount of wiggle room. Just like it should be. Props to those who can keep a good team, while staying well below the cap.  This allows those teams key free agents at opportune times.  Going forward it looks very likely that our cap will float percentage wise with the NHL cap. This will keep things fair and constant every year.

    Topic 2

This year we look to switch the cap to a system that makes GMs much more accountable. After bidding with your alotted $50,000,000 "monopoly" money like we always do, and winning your FA, you will take the players NHL salary, not the winning bid as the salary.

You want a player badly and are willing to spend a bunch of your Monopoly money?  No prob. Only his NHL cap hit applies.  Go for it.
You think you can snag a guy super cheap who has a big NHL cap hit?  Not so fast. Can you fit him in your teams cap?

It keeps the NHL realistic feel.  And it makes GMs consider the Cap much more for their rosters, like such a draft should be. You can't just add an $8mil cap guy without considering the consequences.  Plus it makes arguably stronger teams from loading up on players for cheap.  Strategy and planning.  Just like a real NHL team needs to do.

    Topic 3 (Now rejected)

We we also may want to make the bidding visual again. You can see who is bidding on who.  Like we did originally.  Up for debate.

To those who might be against the idea... If you feel you have a hidden gem, there is nothing to stop you from bidding on the player at the very last minute.  If you want to keep it secret.

But this will allow for some fun chirping for the public ones.  And who knows, it may prevent you from overbidding since you know who is willing to pay at a certain price.

Let the strategy, bidding wars, and crafty FA research begin!

    Comments welcome.

NO CLAIMS AT THIS TIME, ONLY DROPS OR TRADES!

    FEES

Fantrax premium league fees have gone up in price this past year, so fees have gone up 3 dollars this year.  The total fees is 8 bucks for the league fee and 60 bucks for the entry fee.   The entry fees was 65 last year but I felt it best just to lower it due to the price of fantrax premium leagues going up.  The result is a prize pool that will be 50 dollars smaller, which esentially means no prize money for t-bowl winner next year (40 buckss this past year), but they still get the 10 % chance at 1st overall of course.  This is unfortunate but I want to keep the fees reasonable for everyone because this league is more about bragging rights than it is about money.  Any issues as always LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS TO DARREN WHO WON THE LOTTERY PICK.  SECOND YEAR IN A ROW FOR THE FRANCHISE!
Next year Ill do a live video and everyone can see the lottery taking place.  This year I simply had Ana click the buttom on the computer with a random number generator of 1 to 100.  Kev won the toilet bowl so he got the numbers 1 - 10 (10 %), and Darren got the numbers 10 to 37 (27%) and Michelle got 38 to 100 (63 %) (see toilet bowl scenarios at the very bottom of this message for more info).  Ana clicked the button and I was on speaker phone with Alvin.  The number generator scored a 12 and that ensured Darrens win.  Hes like Tambo!  haha Grats!

    Changes to the Scoring System

The new scoring system is up.  The changes are very minimal as you will notice...still 16 cats(essentially to keep the 25% to 75%goalie to skater ratio, but there were changes made because there were too many broken categories.  Keep in mind there is some overlapping that IS needed to balance the league properly (ex d man Points) but some overlapping is too much and the above changes limit that.  Rome wasnt bulit in a day guys, but I feel these changes should get us to the promised land.  Circumvention be damned!!!!!!!!!!!!  Laughing

    Here are the changes made:

Change 1.  FO% to FOW.  The reason for the change:  Two reasons, the first was fix the issue some gm's had with roster eligibility.  Second reason, the FO% cat was broken in the fact that you could have one guy take one faceoff all week and get a hundred %, or you could be rated on three centers instead of four if one of your centers played wing that week with no faceoffs, while your opponent has all four centers counting against his average.  All in all, it was a broken cat and this is an easy switch.

Change 2.  DAW to +/-.  The reason for the change: DAW started off with good intentions; it was added with the idea that it would give all teams with a not so talented offense the chance to build a defensive "DAW" team in order to be competitive.  The expirement failed though and the cat overpowered hits too much (overlapping issue) and largely staled offense, especially by the seasons end  (the opinion of multiple GMs Ive talked to).  The switch to plus minus seems natural because we were already using it through DAW and I want the changes to league as minimal as possible.  I think plus/minus in our format can work just fine because it's such a short duration.  This may be a throwaway cat for some now, but I think it will grow on people once they see how the can use it.

Change 3.  Points to Hattricks.  The reason for the change:  Points devalued goals and basically cancelled out the BG cats premium to goals.  Putting HT in is kind of a way to indirectly take points out of the equation without disprupting the 16 cat balance we have.  Hattricks do tie more often than not, so thats why I find them the least intrsive to the league and possibly the best fit.  Oh, and if you ever did lose the HT cat to some gm don't fret, because LAST YEAR if you were losing 'assists CAT' consistently then you were likely losing a 'point CAT' consistently too.  Keep that in mind!!!!

Change 4.  GAA to Adjusted Saves.  The reason for the change:  Simple, Enrothgate.  lol.  This is to ensure GMs dress two healthy goalies to the best of their intentions.  Unfortunately GAA went out the door, but that was the cost of doing business when you want to keep the league the way it is with the 25 % goalie to 75 % skater ratio.....  BUT NO FRET I ASSURE YOU !  Because, the new goalie cat called Adjusted Saves, takes it into account GAA in its calculation.  The formula for this CAT is
SAVES - ( 5 * Goals Against).  This cat will increase the value of starters.

Change 5.  Salary cap is basically a non factor in our league guys; it's just there for fun really, so i think bidding will go back to the way it way in the beginnng in order to make the salary mean something at all.  This time, however, you'll see the bid AND THE TEAM you're up against!!  So no shenegians will go un noticed by anyone!  Dont run the bids up just to back out!!!! Thats poor sportsmanship and I can't govern that; I can only rely on you to be a good sport.

Change 6.  Second round is two weeks long (same as boaty round).  Reason for change: Make playoffs a focal point of the league and reward teams for making it

Change 7.  Once playoffs begin there will be no WW claims allowed.  As each team finishes their season they must then "cleanup" their rosters.  Remember it's 5 empty active/reserves, any combo.

Possible changes before next season depending of schedule and GM opinions:
    Free agent budget (minor)
    Claims per year (minor)
First round two weeks longs (cool)
    Possible regular season ties. (disputed)
Goalie keepers beyond the three could have stipulations of some kind. (alarming possibly? phone me if you're worried.  No need to worry)

All in all, Rome wasnt built in a day guys, but these changes (kept minimal) were made so that the league could function as it was originally intended to function

    Roster cleanup

At this time Ill ask you all to clean up your roster by having 5 empty active/reserve spaces however you are able to accomplish this and any combination is legal.  For example: say you want to keep 4 goalies, you could drop 3 reserves and 2 active for a total of five.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Misc:

Regarding the prize for the Toilet Bowl Champions see below

The current ratio for a chance at the first overall pick is last place 66 % and second last 34% so taking into account the wonderful Toilet Bowl Championship we could have three different outcomes:

    Scenario 1:
    7th or 8th wins resulting in a 10 % chance , while 9th would then be 27 %, and last place 63 %

    Scenario #2
Last place wins resulting in a a 76% while 9th would then be 24%.

    Scenario #3
    9th place team wins resulting 43 % chance, 10th would be 57 %
