HOUSTON (AP) Malik Osborne scored 16 points and Rice snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Florida International for the third straight time, 73-64 on Thursday night.
Austin Meyer's layup with a second left gave the Owls a 32-28 lead at intermission and Osborne converted a three-point play and hit back-to-back 3s to give Rice a 43-35 lead less than four minutes into the second half.
Brian Beard Jr. gave the Panthers a 47-46 lead with 12:05 left and Trejon Jacob turned in a four-point play midway through the second half to make it 53-49. Osborne hit a 3 with 7:51 to put Rice in front for good, 58-55.
Bishop Mency and Ako Adams each scored 12 points for Rice (5-16, 2-6 C-USA) and Connor Cashaw scored 12 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and dished seven assists.
Beard and Jacob each scored 22 points to lead Florida International (9-12, 3-5).
