ABILENE, Texas (AP) Jalone Friday scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Abilene Christian edged Lamar 74-69 on Wednesday night.
Jaren Lewis added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (14-9, 6-4 Southland Conference). Tevin Foster had 12 points and nine assists and Jaylen Franklin scored 10 with five assists.
Friday made a dunk to start the game and scored 10 points in a 17-4 surge to finish the first half that gave Abilene Christian a 36-32 lead at the break.
The Wildcats never trailed in the second half. Lamar cut it to 70-69 with eight seconds to play, but Foster and Lewis combined for four free throws in the final seconds to keep the Wildcats on top. Lamar's Zjori Bosha missed a 3-point try with a second remaining.
Josh Nzeakor scored 18 points with seven rebounds for the Cardinals (13-10, 5-5). Bosha added 15 points and six rebounds.
