SE Missouri uses turnovers to spark 28-14 FCS playoff win
Sat Nov 24, 2018 6:11 PM

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Daniel Santacaterina threw for three touchdowns and ran for another and Southeast Missouri claimed its first FCS playoff victory in program history, scoring all its points in the third quarter of a 28-14 win over Stony Brook on Saturday.

The Redhawks (9-3) will travel to Utah to face No. 2 seed Weber State in the second round next Saturday.

The Seawolves (7-5), making their fourth FCS appearance, outgained the Redhawks 404-240, but they turned the ball over four times and three of those miscues led to touchdowns.

Trailing 14-0 at halftime, Santacaterina ran 16 yards up the middle to get the Redhawks on the board four plays after Justin Swift's interception. Southeast Missouri tied the game when Taj Jenkins' interception led to Santacaterina's 5-yard scoring pass to Kristian Wilkerson and then took the lead on a 9-yarder to Jerrick Orr. A fumble led to the final Redhawks' touchdown, a 38-yard pass to Wilkerson.

Donald Liotine rushed 2 yards for a score and Joe Carbone threw 36 yards to Julius Wingate for the Seahawks' scores in the second quarter.

Zach Hall finished with 13 tackles, four solo, and became the Redhawks' all-time single-season tackles leader with 163.

This was the second playoff appearance for the Redhawks with other coming in 2010 when they lost to eventual national champion Eastern Washington.
