Clemson's Swinney changing starting kickers for Louisville
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Apparently, not everything's perfect with No. 3 Clemson.
Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said backup kicker Steven Sawicki would start on Saturday against Louisville after starter B.T. Potter missed a 24-yard field goal try right before halftime against Florida State. It was Potter's second straight miss after a 40-yard attempt at North Carolina didn't go through.
Hornibrook will not start this week at Clemson after filling in nicely for the injured James Blackman (knee) against NC State but will still see some reps under center, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
While it was almost a given that James Blackman was going to be the starter come Week 1, it appears as though Hornibrook is making a name for himself to be in discussions for the starting job, Wayne McGahee of the Tallahassee Democrat reports.
Blackman appears to be the frontrunner to be the starting quarterback for Florida State next season after incumbent starter Deondre Francois was dismissed from the team Sunday, Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Francois said Wednesday that he will listen to NFL officials' evaluation of his prospects for the 2019 draft but noted that he will return to Florida State for his final year of eligibility if the feedback he receives isn't favorable, Chris Hays and Chaunte'l Powell of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
